Taite Innes
My name is Taite Innes and I was really drawn to the work here, at the Woodrow Wilson House, when I attended a private tour with my mom last summer. I’ve been to historical buildings and museums in the past, but my previous experiences were nothing like the one I had at President Wilson’s house. It was like I had stepped into a different time, and the President and his Wife had just left for lunch and I snuck in. The house is kept and cared for so well that it allowed me to really grasp what Woodrow and Edith Wilson’s lives were like after he retired. History was never my favorite subject in middle school, or now even in my Senior year in High School, but I was still able to sit in awe at some of the things I was seeing during my tour at the Woodrow Wilson House. My experience made me question all the work that goes into displaying Woodrow and Edith’s lives when they no longer have the opportunity to do so. I decided to become a Scholar here and the project that I am currently working on is to create lesson plans that are specifically tailored to kids like me. I create lesson plans with a variety of resources and activities that make students my age and younger awe in a class that has never been their favorite. I truly believe that student’s learn better through an enjoyment and curiosity of the class, which ultimately comes down to how the material is being presented to them. I will be a year-long scholar here, and the project opportunities are endless. I am excited to keep working and come out of this program with a unique experience that has challenged and grown me along the way.
