J. R. Bolling's Daybook Now Complete for S Street Years 1921-1924
3/25/2008
J.R. Bolling's Daybook, an interactive daily timeline of Woodrow Wilson’s life has now been completed for the S Street years (1921-1924). Begun as a Wilson 150 initiative in 2004 and funded by an Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, Museums for America Grant with additional support from the National Trust Interpretation and Education fund the work was initiated by Dr. Mark Benbow. Dr. Benbow compiled and edited the framework entries from December 28, 1856 through Wilson’s death on February 4, 1924 using John Randolph Bolling’s compilation of key events in the life of Wilson published in 1927 as the “Chronology of Woodrow Wilson”. The “Chronology” noted the most important events in Wilson’s life, including the years before his presidency. Bolling also kept a detailed account of the visitors to the Wilsons on S Street and also noted Wilson’s daily activities such as his auto rides, trips to the theater and the the various public appearances made by the former President. Not every day had an activity recorded. There now is a daily entry for the entire period for the S Street years on the timeline. These entries were made and edited by Steven Carson, a noted historian and Wilson House museum guide. Since the missing days did not appear in Bolling's original datebook or in his S Street desk calendar they were compiled from various other sources including the Papers of Woodrow Wilson, edited by Arthur Link.

Visit the Daybook above – and enjoy your exploration of a day in the life of Woodrow Wilson!
