When Illness Strikes the Leader
With Dr. Jerrold Post
Friday, April 23, 12:30
Optional Pre-program lunch at 11:45

Woodrow Wilson House presents a conversation with author, former career CIA and professor of political psychology Dr. Jerrold Post on the topic of “When Illness Strikes the Leader.” Join us as we get inside the minds of great and ailing leaders of the 20th century, examine concealed illnesses, the impact of terminal illness on decision-making, and the impact of substance abuse when the high and mighty become “mighty high.” Among the leaders Dr. Post will be discussing are Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, Adolph Hitler, Mao Zedong, the Shah of Iran, and Menachem Begin. This program is open to the public in conjunction with the current exhibition “My Third Leg”: Woodrow Wilson’s Walking Sticks, which showcases a selection of 50 of President Wilson’s walking sticks and addresses President Wilson’s own struggle with illness and disability.

MAKE A CONTRIBUTION to the Wilson House Window Treatment Restoration Fund!

The Woodrow Wilson House seeks contributions to match the $10,000 challenge support of a National Trust Historic Sites Fund Grant for the replacement of window coverings throughout the house. The project will replace thirty year old window coverings and treatments, including window shades, lace sheers, and the exterior awnings. The project is being led by Wilson House Curator John D. Powell who is basing the restoration on samples and documents from the Wilson period. Once these funds are raised, the comprehensive interior restoration, which includes the recent Presidential Library’s walls conservation, will be complete. The project began right after the grant from Save America's Treasures supported exterior restoration in 2004.

Easter Egg Roll… FAMILY FUN at Wilson House

The Easter Bunny hopped over on Saturday, March 27, for the 2nd Annual Easter Egg Roll. Generations of youngsters, tiny tots, their parents and grandparents gathered for an afternoon in the garden, sponsored by David Chalker and TD Bank. Under a clear blue spring sky, every “bunny” enjoyed egg rolling, face painting and games, especially the treasure hunt in the new exhibition of President Wilson’s walking sticks. S Street in Kalorama is the place to be for Family Fun when the Woodrow Wilson House and the Textile Museum celebrate spring!
